Creation Art / Blog by Dechen Suzan

I’ve decided to start my own blog. I will be posting about all the things I get up to, new works or art and and shows and exhibitions i may be attending. Do check back regularly to see what’s new.

My Journey began when I discovered the art of seeing.

I learnt that it’s possible to learn how to draw by learning how to see.

I had a book called the Zen of seeing. By Fredrick Frank.

I joined an art course in which had been model.

I had luckily been bought a set of canvases and Oil paints and I was told that I could paint.

I found this all very fascinating because previously I did ceramics, believing I could not draw.

In the class we learnt about perspective using a pencil, and eye hand coordination. This took some practice but was very interesting.

Then came the paint, I seemed to have a natural flow with colour and paint in oils.

Water Colours I used for sketching.

My first attempt at a portrait went very well. I still have the piece today unfortunately unfinished but very interesting use of colour and form.

What I really loved was nature and getting up early to see the light on the water in rivers.

I started taking photo’s in magical places with my SLR camera, which opened up the possibility to paint the scene onto canvas.

My first major work /painting I called Initiation, this painting can be seen on my website under Figurative in the gallery section.

My daughter has the original painting of the river leading to the sea at Lamorna cove Cornwall.

I was on a course called Emerging woman at the cure centre in Cornwall. I awoke very early one morning and crept out before anyone was awake. I heard the sound of water as I passed the Ancient Fogoo/ cave into the hillside. I followed the sound of the stream as it gradually became louder. The twinkling sun was beginning to shine on the water and the trees as the ,light revealed the secret hidden beauty of the the stream as it meandered down the wooded glade to the sea. I did not know it went to the sea, so you can imagine my surprise when I saw this. I quickly took out my camera to capture the true magic and majesty of this moment on my journey. The quality of light took my breath away so much so I wanted to try and paint the beauty I felt all around me.

Two of the Paintings in the Gallery under Figurative are from this early morning walk. Initiation and Severn faces. The third called Goddess in honour inspired by a river in Scotland. I will tell you more about this adventure in my next blog.

I can’t wait to share with you all what’s going on here at Dechen Art.
